‘Let’s get bicycles so we can ride together.’ Those were my words over breakfast that morning in early September. Little did I know it would quickly turn into a passionate hobby we could share and enjoy together. We both decided to go with e-bikes, as we recognized the need for pedal assist on steep hills and recognized that we’re not as young or strong as we once were.
This is my new bicycle, purchased on September 17, 2024. It’s a Trek Verve+ 2 Lowstep. I tested the Verve+ 1 in a small frame and the Verve+ 2 in a medium frame. The Verve+ 2 was the perfect choice for me because of its mid-drive motor (unlike the Verve+ 1, which has a hub drive) and its excellent fit.
My bike identifies as a ‘she’ and her name is Trippy Hippie. The color wasn’t my first choice, but it’s grown on me. Plus, it left plenty of room to add my own personality with vinyl stickers, custom bags, and other cute accessories.
Since I hadn’t ridden a bicycle in, well, many years, you can see from the photo below and the video that my seat was too low, and I looked quite nervous. Fast forward 400+ miles later, and those things have greatly improved. We’ve already explored and enjoyed more places than we had in the previous 5–10 years.
I can already tell that this hobby (or obsession) is something we’ll enjoy for many years to come, and I’m sure this won’t be the last bike I own. However, Trippy Hippie will always be my first and probably my favorite of them all.
