We love lighthouses! One of our favorites, of course, is the granddaddy of them all, Cape Hatteras. While we have visited this particular lighthouse many times, on this occasion, we were happy to see that it had been successfully moved to it’s new location. In 1999, the 4800 ton structure had been moved inland 2900 feet to save it from severe beach erosion.
We have never summited this one, but it would be well worth the climb. The surrounding area is always so beautiful and the lighthouse is so iconic and picturesque any time of year.

When we were finished roaming around the lighthouse park and the adjoining beach, we hopped on the ferry that took us over to Ocracoke Island to continue our trip south along the Outer Banks. The ferry was fabulous! We love ferries as much as we love lighthouses. Always a cool experience!
