Bo Jackson. Just say that name in any home in the southern US and everyone will know exactly who you are talking about. He is a legend down here, especially in Auburn where he played his college ball.
In 2011, a devastating series of tornadoes tore through his home state, Alabama, and surrounding states. The total number of lives lost to this “super outbreak” was 348.
Every year, since 2012, Bo has invited the fellow celebrities and the public (in 2012) to join him in an annual charity bike ride event to help provide funds for natural disaster relief and the construction of community safe rooms and warning sirens across the state. This year, 2025, was the last year that the event was held and we decided to join the event for the “final ride.” You can read more about Bo Bikes Bama here.

Of course, joining the ride meant that Edgar has to participate, too. This was not a problem, until we looked at the forcast for ride day. There was a high probability of rain for the morning of the ride and Edgar’s bucket did not have any type of rain or sun cover.
I had been considering many options for covering his bucket for a while and finally settled on a tent/canopy design. My thought was that I could get a canopy that would come with a baby stroller, or car bucket seat, and alter it a bit to make it fit. It is quite difficult to find one of those sold separately from the original stroller/seat.
The more I cogitated on it, the more refined my plan became and finally, I was able to construct what you see below for him. It worked out beautifully! He stayed dry and shaded all day. I will go into detail on how I made his bucket cover in a future post, because I actually have to make another one for his second bucket.

I am happy to also report that the saddle bags I made for my bike were fabulous, too. I made them from a free pattern from Miko Craft on YouTube. I made a few modifications to the pattern, but not many. The embroidery was done on the waterproof fabric first, then the pattern pieces for the bag were cut out and sewn together. There are two of them and they are identical. If I ever make new ones, I will probably make the embroidery different on each one so I can tell them apart. Otherwise, they are fantastic!

For those wondering, we were behind on our real time posts and we are catching up quickly. We don’t send out emails for a lot of the back dated posts we are doing so we don’t annoy everyone, so if you want to scroll through the posts you might have missed just head to the main blog page and that will let you scroll through the list.
