Adding 15% VLT Window Tint on the Van

Removing Rear Window on Econoline Van

Window tint in the South isn’t just a luxuryโ€”it’s essential. When outside temperatures hover around 100ยฐF, the van’s windows can act like magnifying glasses, causing the interior temperature to soar to 150ยฐF. This extreme heat is not only harmful to the van’s interior but also uncomfortable for anyone traveling inside.

After extensive research on various types of tintโ€”and discovering that having it professionally installed locally would cost over $1,000โ€”I opted for DIY MotoShield Pro Premium Nano Ceramic Tint (15% VLT). This product claims to “reduce infrared heat and block 99% of UV rays,” which is exactly what we needed for this climate.

When we bought the van, we knew we would have to redo the tint on all the windows. However, I didn’t anticipate how challenging the job would be. For the first window, I attempted to do it “perfectly.” I removed the back window and spent a week painstakingly removing all the old caulk from both the glass and the frame. It quickly became clear that this method was not efficient in terms of time, effort, or results. After completing that one window, I decided to simply apply the tint to the remaining windows without removing them. Although the final job wasn’t perfect and felt somewhat makeshift, it ultimately served its purpose.
