Way back in the year 2000, Pieces of the Past was going full tilt and we had many orders to fill. We also had shows to prepare for, so work was non-stop.
At the time, we created, manufactured, and sold our own patented products, including: The Quilt Hanger, The Quilt Lap Hoop, and Stick-n-Stitch Quilting stencils.
We began doing small craft and quilt shows close to home, but as word spread and the internet became a real thing, our business grew to out of state venues and eventually we went nationwide. We always (with occasional help from family members through the years) manufactured all of our stock for shows and orders.
The photos below show me working on quilt hangers with the table saw at our house in Homewood, Alabama. When it got too cold, the manufacturing process that could be done inside was done, as in the second photo.
The third and fourth photos, below, are a good example of a typical order batch that we were taking to the post office for shipping on a weekly basis. To say we were busy is an understatement.

Once we started doing shows out of state, we invested in a Roadtrek camper van that we used for accomodations while we towed a trailer with our products behind. The super small rv had everything you would ever need for living on the road. It had a queen sized bed, a bathroom that could be closed off complete with toilet and shower, a kitchen area (galley) with sink, stove, and cabinet space, fridge, full sized television (not flat panel like we have today) and you could stand up completely straight in it, too.
We loved everything about the Roadtrek, except for the price. We were young and didn’t know any better than to buy it from a dealer, new. That is content for another post, though, so let me just say here that we kept the Roadtrek as long as we could and even turned it into a tow vehicle for our Big Red Bus. If that peaks your interest, please feel free to check out our next posts. ~Enjoy
