Another year, another Final Four. Well, not really. While Auburn University seems to always be one of the best basketball teams in the country every year, they never are quite good enough to close the deal. Of course, that is a subject for another time.
This year, Auburn did make it to the Final Four and it was being hosted in San Antonio. Cue the insane prices of airfare and hotels for the event.
As a season ticket holder, Scott’s dad was able to get tickets for four to go to the event, but flying there was out of the question. Driving there was the answer for our family and, apparently, many others. Scott’s sister was able to secure an AirBnb about 45 minutes from the venue and this one accepted pets. Edgar was thrilled.
Scott and I took this opportunity to, not only go to the game, but to get in a couple of bike rides in a totally different location. Five adults and Edgar loaded up in two vehicles and headed west on I-10 bound for San Antonio.

Louisiana’s roads are always a nightmare. The are the worst in the entire country in my opinion and always (at least the past 50 years that I have been traveling them) have been. Their rest areas are quite nice, though. However, a word to the dog owners out there, pick your spots carefully. There are thousands of stickers (prickers, burrs, etc) in all the Louisiana rest areas that we have visited. Edgar was a mess.

Once you pass over the incredibly long bridge in the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area there is a serious lack of food selection, especially the closer you get to Houston from the east. We finally had to stop at the Whataburger in Winnie, Texas for dinner. I would recommend avoiding it if possible. Whataburger is usually excellent fast food, but this one, not so much, but the people were nice, maybe food prep was just having a bad day.

All day long (14 hours driving time) we were surrounded by other Auburn Fans heading west with us. It was like we were all in it together. Until we hit the outskirts of Houston. Then the Houston Cougar fans became part of the mix and it was fun waving at both.

The AirBnb was fantastic. It was clean, with plenty of space and a fenced in backyard area (without stickers). We highly recommend this one, if you are in the area (810 Terminal Loop Road, McQueeney, TX 78123).
The time we had at the AirBnb we spent picking up Wanderer Earth miles going through the surrounding neighborhoods. It was a blast. Sarah, Scott’s sister, got a chance to try out my e-Bike and she seemed to enjoy it, too.
Once it was time for the game(s) to commence, Edgar and I had take-out food and stayed at the AirBnb where we watched them on television, while Scott, Sarah, Larry (Scott’s dad), and Gabriel (our nephew) all went to the game(s).

Ride with GPS
Here is the neighborhood ride we did from our Airbnb when we got there.
